The key component in the comforters and mattress toppers of Gaiaheartworkz is the peat fiber.

Gaiaheartworkz has developed peat-fiber comforters and mattress toppers as a way to provide people with peat’s health benefits. These products consist fully of certified organic materials and come in contemporary designs.

Peat fiber is derived from Eriophorum Vaginatum, also known as “sheated cotton grass,” “tussock cotton grass” (US) or “hare’s cotton grass” (EU). The cotton grass grows on bogs in peat moors. It comes up every year and dies out. Owing to the acidic and anaerobic nature of the bog, the stem and root of the plant do not decompose totally but deteriorate into the fiber. This process has been going on for hundreds and even thousands of years. The peat moors contain trees, bushes and even entire ancient forests. The physical components and life forces of the peat have been conserved in a pristine manner because it has been shielded from the increasing radiation emissions of the last centuries.

The healing qualities of the organic substances from the moors have been known for thousands of years in England, Ireland and Europe, and these substances have been used therapeutically for many illnesses and ailments. Hence, the moor-baths and skincare-moor products created by Dr. Hauschka.

Physical Properties of Peat Fiber

High content of silicic acid (strong affinity to light and cosmic rays and therefore absorbs them);

Humic substances. Human skin also contains relatively large amounts of silicic acid. Light with especially short wavelengths damages proteins and thus cells. Human skin transforms short-wave into long-wave radiation with the help of endogenous melanin. Melanin is the skin pigment (as in freckles). The medicinal effect is mainly attributed to the humic substances (fulvic acid and humic acid);

Peat acts aseptically (antibacterial, fungicidal).

Lignin is responsible for enhanced flame retardancy (30 percent less than cotton).

Benefits of Peat-Fiber Products

The physical and life-force properties of peat fiber generate a health-giving, cocooning effect, enhancing and solidifying our sense of well-being, ease and protection. People thus become more harmonious, empowered, less stressed or hyperactive, and are supported in their health and healing.

Peat products can:

  • Provide warmth to our body and life forces, thereby improving our overall blood-circulation;
  • Support and protect our skin and sensory nervous system;
  • Support, protect and reinvigorate our life forces;
  • Protect us against radiation (electro-magnetism, electricity) and transform short-wave energy into long waves (also a form of generating warmth);
  • Reduce inflammation and support healing in rheumatic diseases and in joint inflammation, fertility-promoting;
  • Absorb moisture, has a low-level flammability and is light-weight;
  • Enable people to sleep better and wake up more re-invigorated

Washing & Care Suggestions

The care of peat products should be done exclusively by a professional (hand) wash at 30 ° with the help of acidic detergents (about ph 6) without fragrances. Mild, sour detergent suitable for wool prevents too much humic matter from being washed out. Important is thorough rinsing and, with high water hardness, an addition of some vinegar in the last rinse water. Peat beds have a fungicidal action, preventing the growth of mold fungi.

Nevertheless, daily ventilation is also essential here, so that the bedding can release the moisture absorbed during the night and thus retain its function.
