Reflections: Looking Back at Where We've Been - 10/28/26
In this October 28th webinar, Tom revisits a presentation he gave four to five years ago, reflecting on what he would now update, question, or explain differently. He shares a recent encounter with a listener who asked, “Is there anything different you would say now from 4 to 5 years ago?”—the same question he had already decided to explore.
Highlights from this session include:
- Tom revisits historical contagion experiments, examining how researchers interpreted their results and questioning whether those experiments demonstrated transmission from sick people to healthy people. He also shares his perspective on the possible role of expectations and emotional connections in experiences of illness.
- A return to the meaning of virus isolation, including a recorded virology lecture discussing the terms “isolate,” “variant,” and “strain.” Tom contrasts the procedures described in the lecture with his understanding of isolation and revisits cell-culture experiments involving changes in nutrients and antibiotics.
- The return of the “Pumpkin challenge,” in which viewers compare electron-microscope images described as SARS-CoV-2 with images from kidney biopsies and other tissue samples. Tom uses the comparison to question whether visual resemblance alone can establish what a particle is.
- A discussion of cell diagrams, tissue preparation, and microscopic artifacts, drawing on Harold Hillman’s arguments about geometry and how structures should appear in different sections. Tom applies these concerns to ribosomes, the endoplasmic reticulum, synapses, and the blood-brain barrier.
- Tom revisits his views on DNA, heredity, and mitochondrial function, while acknowledging that parts of his earlier writing no longer reflect his current thinking. He emphasizes his distinction between observing a structure and establishing what that structure does.
- An exploration of structured water, including examples from Veda Austin’s work and quotations about the liquid-crystalline nature of living tissues. Tom also draws parallels between his view of biological structures and architectural forms involving domes, antennas, columns, and water.
- A brief return to heart circulation and stenting, including Tom’s interpretation of a trial comparing stents with a sham procedure. He revisits his criticism of the blocked-artery explanation of heart attacks and discusses what he considers the role of the heart’s energetics.
Tom closes with Jude Roberts’ rendition of “Hallelujah,” reflecting on resilience and the importance of holding on to one’s spirit during difficult times. He also shares that Jude and his fellow musicians are expected to return for the next New Biology Experience. Throughout the webinar, Tom emphasizes revisiting earlier conclusions, separating observations from interpretations, and remaining willing to change one’s understanding.
